Where to start... Nostalgy makes the past seem so full of things you've done and the present so... well... everyday.

I used to read a lot (Sci-Fi, Garfield, Popular Science), code a lot (Demos, Apps, VGA/SB system layer), be somewhat active in the "net" community of the time (BBS's, FidoNet), play a lot (most of the quests of that time) and do lots and lots of pet projects (Adventure Engine, TSR's, apps for small businesses, ...).

These days I've traded some things for "real" work (or is it?!). I read, though much less (Sci-Fi, Popular-Science, professional literature), code very little (Embedded low-level stuff), play very little (only those really good adventures), and have only few pet projects to which I don't dedicate nearly enough time (embedded 2D UI lib, a File-System, ...). Also picked up a few amateur hobbies along the years: chess, amatuer math, M.Sc.CS.

I am always trying to figure out the right balance between work and play, and lately it seems to me like I've been neglecting the fun part of life.

Here's a packetstorm of stuff I'm in to, some degree or other:

* Interesting courses in my B.Sc, M.Sc: Number Theory, DBMS implementation, Computational Geometry, Image Processing, Coding Theory, Fractal Image Coding, Compilation.

* Diving: I'm your run-of-the-mill AOW (**) diver. Dove in some of the most beautiful places in the world: the Maldives; Sharm.

* Interesting video technologies I've worked with: MPEG1, MPEG4/H263++, streaming them, storing them, interop-ing them, ...

* 2D computer graphics, especially rasterization of polygons, lines, circles, etc. Rastertization of fonts, anti-aliasing, effects, etc. as well.

* Demos and the demo scene.

* Interesting image processing applications I've worked with -- pre/post-processing of all kinds: noise removal, Bayer->RGB, image stabilization, color enhancements, deblocking, sharpening, ...

* Architectures of SoC's, especially those with particular-purpose accelerators (video, audio, DSP).

* Reading Sci-Fi. Currently into Vernon Vinge.

* Chess, though I'm afraid I'm not much of a player. But the game is so cool. My favourite opening used to be "The Dragon" (Sicilian).

* ARM architecture.

* Embedded File-Systems in general.

* Music: Dance, 80's. How weird is that.

* Movies. Don't watch much TV, but theater is *the* escapism.

* TV series (ain't BT great?): 24, GG, Enterprise, The West Wing.

* Used to be a ST:TNG fan. Somehow this passed, but there will always be a warm place in my heart for NCC1701d.

* ST:VOY is by far *the* best ST series. Too bad it's over. But seasons 5..7 rocked!
